Set amidst the evolving urban fabric of Wadmukhwadi in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, The Brick Arch Restaurant by AD+Atelier is a masterclass in balancing tradition with modernity. Designed by architect Omkar Kale, this hospitality project offers an immersive, earthy experience shaped by natural materials, local craftsmanship, and spatial rhythm.

Architecture That Speaks in Brick and Light
What makes The Brick Arch Restaurant truly stand out is its architectural honesty. Exposed bricks, stone, and slate—materials rooted in the Indian construction tradition—form the backbone of the space. But these are not simply nostalgic flourishes. Under the deft guidance of AD+Atelier, they have been reinterpreted with a clean, modern sensibility.
The iconic use of semicircular and bull’s-eye arches acts as a motif that repeats across thresholds and corridors, reinforcing movement, rhythm, and identity. Natural light pours into the restaurant through strategically positioned openings, animating the textures and creating shifting patterns of shadow through the day.

Design Philosophy: Rooted in Vernacular, Executed with Precision
At the core of this project lies a philosophy of contextual sensitivity—a hallmark of AD+Atelier’s design approach. Inspired by the architectural ideologies of Louis Kahn and Laurie Baker, the team focused on functionality and emotion in equal measure. The design embraces the regional vernacular through the use of sustainable materials and passive cooling techniques while maintaining a sharp attention to modern spatial requirements.

The brick cladding acts not just as skin but as soul, binding the interiors in a cohesive material language. Slate and stone flooring ground the space and cool it naturally, offering a tactile richness that aligns with the restaurant’s culinary ethos—raw, authentic, and comforting.
A Collaborative Journey to Realize a Vision
From inception, the project was driven by close collaboration between the client and design team. Every detail—from the curve of an arch to the interplay of warm lighting and cool stone—was tailored to bring to life the client’s vision of an environment that is both luxurious and familiar. The result is a space that doesn’t just house a restaurant; it tells a story of memory, comfort, and design integrity.
The planning ensures seamless movement for guests and staff alike. The seating areas, tucked between architectural gestures, allow moments of quiet privacy or communal gathering—all while staying visually connected to the overall space.

The Brick Arch Restaurant isn’t just a hospitality destination—it’s a spatial retreat that reconnects architecture with emotion, context, and craft. In a world of flashy design, this restaurant is a rare example of restraint, purpose, and quiet beauty.
