Designed with openness, art, and adaptability at its core, this 4,500 sq. ft. office blends culture, craft, and collaborative energy into a seamless architectural experience.

Unlike most design studios that remain hidden behind closed doors, Studio Uli welcomes the public with intention. Located in the city center, the space is envisioned as a hybrid of working studio and cultural hub. Through a gracefully arched entrance, the reception unfolds with a carefully framed view, anchored by two in-house sculptures—Incanto and Alabris—introducing visitors to the studio’s artistic ethos.

The amphitheatre behind the reception is the heart of the office, open to the city and its creators. It hosts everything from speaker sessions and creative conversations to playful indoor games. With frequent appearances by photographers, filmmakers, and artists, this zone fosters meaningful exchange beyond the boundaries of architecture.

The main workspace features enclosed cabins with floating roofs that stop just short of the ceiling—an intentional design solution that solves spatial limitations while adding visual lightness. These cabins also double as gallery walls for emerging artists, underlining the studio’s belief in fluid, multifunctional design.

Materials were chosen for tactility and context: textured dual-tone walls painted by local artisans, oxide flooring for cool comfort, and a muted, earthy palette throughout. A quiet balcony offers retreat—a lotus-inspired fibre pot and silver pouffes setting the scene for meditative breaks.

Founded by architects Mohammed Fazil UT, Mohammed Shijil, and Safvan K.C., Studio Uli has earned its reputation as one of Calicut’s most innovative architecture and design firms. Known for creating spaces that celebrate tradition while embracing change, the firm blends cultural sensitivity with contemporary experimentation.
