In the heart of an old residential building, where decades of lived-in memories lingered, Studio Gasp saw the perfect opportunity to reimagine what a creative workspace could be. The result is Studio_02, a refined, adaptive, and deeply contextual design studio that celebrates both history and the future of design thinking.

Founded by architects Sahil Pherwani and Gargi Kulkarni Pherwani, Studio Gasp is known for its sensitive interventions and nuanced understanding of space. In Studio_02, they transform a 40-year-old apartment into a purpose-driven commercial studio that is as poetic as it is pragmatic.

The existing site came with kota stone sills, teak wood doors and windows, and modest balconies—each element a nod to its past life. Instead of wiping the slate clean, Studio Gasp preserved and restored these features, carefully integrating them into a minimalist yet evocative material palette.
At the spatial core of Studio_02 is a central utility zone—housing the pantry and washroom—around which the remaining program revolves: an open studio, conference room, and workspaces. This configuration promotes interaction, adaptability, and quiet moments of focus.

Precut black basalt stone flooring, concrete-finished walls, and restored timber detailing set the tone for a studio that is both raw and refined. The hierarchy of spaces is achieved through planning and layout—not partitions—making the flow intuitive and visually expansive.
While the interiors are grounded in restraint, the design makes room for the unpredictable. Future collaborators, art objects, or even resident cats are envisioned as part of the space’s evolving narrative—echoing Studio Gasp’s belief that great design is a living, breathing process.

Studio Gasp continues to grow as a distinctive voice in contemporary architecture and interior design, known for reimagining urban footprints through a deep connection with context, materials, and client intent. Studio_02 is not just their office—it’s their manifesto.
