In the heart of Bangalore’s Electronic City, the National School of Business has expanded its vision for modern education with a thoughtfully designed academic block that bridges sustainability, clarity, and student-centric functionality. Designed by HabitArt Architecture Studio, the project is a response to the school’s rapid growth and its evolving pedagogical approach—creating an infrastructure that aligns with its values of openness, connection, and ecological sensitivity.

A Structure That Breathes with Its Context
Set within a tightly constrained site limited by railway setbacks, the architectural strategy is rooted in pragmatism and elegance. The building unfolds in two linear volumes—one for academic activities and another for faculty—linked by a central open-air corridor. This spine acts as more than just a circulation path; it becomes a vibrant social and transitional space that knits the campus together while opening up to lush green buffers.

HabitArt Studio, led by architect Aditya Venkat, is known for crafting architecture that responds to both its users and its environment. Their approach to the National School of Business is no different—transforming limitations into opportunities for layered interactions and meaningful spatial planning.
A Climate-Responsive Academic Sanctuary
Designed and executed within a single academic year, the project integrates passive design principles with a strong material ethos. Locally sourced bricks enhance thermal comfort and aesthetic harmony, while wide openings, natural ventilation, and orientation-based shading reduce energy dependence. A welcoming stone plinth at the entrance, shaded by a lightweight steel bridge, marks a dignified threshold for students and faculty alike.
Inside, classrooms are optimized for adaptability and comfort, with potential for vertical expansion in the future—offering long-term value without compromising on current usability.

More Than a Building: A Community Spine
What sets this design apart is its ability to elevate everyday student experiences. The open central axis becomes a campus boulevard—facilitating informal learning, quiet reflection, and social engagement. By layering open-air movement with landscaped views and intuitive zoning, the design fosters a holistic academic environment where learning naturally spills out of the classroom.
