Tucked away in the dense greenery of an 11-acre coffee estate in Bhadra, Karnataka, Bhadra Estate Villa by Métr.design is a poetic architectural retreat that blurs the boundary between built form and landscape. Inspired by the layered geometry of the Bhadra flower, the home is an ode to context-sensitive architecture that is minimal, immersive, and profoundly respectful of nature.

An Architecture Shaped by the Landscape
Métr.design, an emerging studio known for its contextual and eco-sensitive work, reimagines residential luxury through restraint. The villa’s design is rooted in the natural rhythms of its site. Its plan takes cues from the dual-petal structure of the native Bhadra flower—two programmatic wings flanking a central core that houses services and circulation. This organic layout not only simplifies movement but also creates a spatial flow that feels intuitive and serene.
Access to the home is carefully choreographed. Visitors are led along a side entry that conceals the view of the nearby stream, unveiling it only at the right moment. This sequence of reveal builds drama without noise—an elegant embrace of the natural surroundings.
Lightness, Elevation, and Ecology
The entire villa sits on stilted foundations, lifting it lightly above the terrain. This move allows rainwater to drain naturally and vegetation to thrive underneath, all while providing elevated views of the estate. Instead of clearing land, the architecture hovers—offering shelter without dominating the landscape.
The living and common spaces occupy the lower level, opening outward with floor-to-ceiling glass walls and shaded verandahs that seamlessly merge inside and out. Private spaces are stacked above, more inward yet still open to light, air, and framed vistas.

Material Palette with Minimal Impact
Bhadra Estate Villa exemplifies environmentally conscious design through its material palette. Locally sourced grey Cera granite, reclaimed railway wood, and regional bricks form the core materiality, lending the home a raw yet refined tactility. The polished concrete floors echo the simplicity of the plantation soil, while natural ventilation strategies reduce energy consumption.
Nothing about the home feels loud. Instead, it whispers—a series of calm, tactile decisions that culminate in a dwelling that belongs as much to the land as it does to its inhabitants.

Bhadra Estate Villa is a retreat not just in geography, but in attitude. It strips away the excess, listens to the land, and leaves behind only what’s essential—shelter, serenity, and a seamless connection to nature.
