In the heart of Ashok Vihar, a vibrant residential enclave in New Delhi, Tandem House emerges as a striking example of how multigenerational living can be both contemporary and culturally rooted. Designed by The Melange Studio, this 22,000 sq. ft. home was conceived for a joint family of two brothers and their families—crafted to provide individual autonomy while encouraging shared experiences through thoughtfully connected common spaces.

Rooted in Legacy, Refined for Today
Tandem House isn’t just an address—it’s a tribute to legacy, designed with emotional and spatial sensitivity. Inspired by the family’s old home, where Indian furniture and classical detailing shaped their past, the architecture retains a sense of familiarity while offering an updated interpretation of grandeur and proportion.
The facade stands tall and dignified, surrounded by Peepal trees and echoing a classical bungalow silhouette. Inside, the house is planned as two mirrored duplexes—each with its own private stairwell, yet connected through a shared basement entertainment space and a lush rooftop terrace.

A Symphony of Structure, Light, and Material
Every floor tells its own story. The lower levels of each duplex house the master bedrooms and shared family zones, while upper levels are designed as private retreats for the younger generation. Soaring ceilings, seamless ventilation, and abundant natural light create a sense of expansiveness—enhanced by strategically placed skylights and open-plan transitions.
What elevates Tandem House further is its material palette: Italian marble, bamboo flooring, engineered wood, and carefully restored heirloom furniture pieces. Each finish and texture is intentional, balancing sustainability with sophistication.

Interiors That Evoke Emotion
The interiors by The Melange Studio reflect their core philosophy: design that goes beyond beauty to touch the emotional and personal. A mix of bold colors—like deep forest greens—and soft neutrals are used across rooms to craft intimate and expressive spaces. The double-height formal living room, calm and monochrome, contrasts with the cozy family lounge, filled with pattern, personality, and warmth.
Throughout the house, Indian craftsmanship holds a special place—from Bhadohi rugs to hand-carved wooden panels—showcasing the studio’s commitment to locally rooted luxury.

A Home Designed to Evolve
Tandem House is a project where every decision—whether structural or aesthetic—serves the deeper purpose of enhancing quality of life. It’s not just a house built for the present, but a space that anticipates the future—an enduring expression of family, memory, and mindful design.
