The story of Chudasama residence is an architectural odyssey that unravel the design narrative of a distinctive urban abode that challenges conventional notions of domesticity and embraces the dynamic interplay between form and function.

This home, situated in an urban setting, epitomizes modern architectural design. Thoughtfully crafted to adapt to its surroundings and climate, it prioritizes user privacy while maintaining a connection to the external environment. Unlike conventional homes that tend to be inward-focused, this residence embraces an outward perspective, engaging with its surroundings. A standout feature of the project is its innovative use of a dynamic perforated screen, which not only offers shade but also creates captivating shadow patterns throughout the day, enlivening the outdoor spaces. Situated in the bustling commercial district of Baroda, the site is characterized by its proximity to a busy road and heavy traffic flow.

Driven by a desire to create a haven amidst the urban chaos, the clients who were seasoned businessmen with a penchant for elegance, entrusted the designers with the task of reimagining their first residence. Despite the allure of alternative sites, sentimentality prevailed, and the clients chose to breathe new life into a plot imbued with nostalgic charm.

The long and narrow piece of plot spanning approximately 7,200 square feet was the main challenge during design ideation. As the designers embarked on the design process, they encountered several challenges that needed careful consideration. Given the compact nature of the site and the clients’ extensive requirements, including six bedrooms, a ground-floor retail space, and various amenities, there was a necessity of constructing a tall building. However, the aim was to avoid the typical appearance of an apartment building and instead create a welcoming residence with uninterrupted visual connectivity between floors.

Furthermore, the plot’s unique location adjacent to a busy road presented additional challenges. There was a dire need to find solutions to bring in natural light, mitigate noise pollution, devise a distinctive exterior design, and enhance residents’ connection to the outdoors while ensuring their privacy. Right from the planning to material selections all factors paved way to seeking solutions for these challenges.

The architects aimed to achieve a bold and minimalist exterior for the house, steering clear of a typical apartment-like appearance. Their vision materialized in the form of a striking latticed red granite screen with artistic perforations adorning the south elevation at second and third level. Beautiful terrace gardens were strategically placed at first and fourth levels, introducing green spaces amidst the urban setting. To maintain design cohesion, the granite screen motif was replicated on the north facade at third level. Complementing these features, exposed concrete elements were intricately cast in a rhythmic pattern reminiscent of corrugated sheets, adding texture and visual interest to the facade.

Navigating the constraints of space with finesse, the interior layout unfolds with effortless grace. Each floor is thoughtfully curated to maximize functionality and enhance liveability, while maintaining a clear flow between spaces. From the ground floor showroom to the rooftop terrace garden, every element is orchestrated to create a harmonious living environment.

A double-height entrance foyer welcomes guests with its serene ambiance, while a glass elevator offers a journey of discovery with its art-filled interiors.
