Nestled along the outskirts of Tuticorin, Billy O’ Tea by STO.M.P is a 5,000 sq. ft. residence that blends coastal tradition with imaginative design, reinterpreting East Indian heritage through the lens of contemporary architecture. Led by architect Vignesh Sekar, STO.M.P is known for creating emotionally resonant and context-sensitive spaces—and this home is a masterclass in just that.
Inspired by the imagery of a docked ship and the relentless energy of the sea, the house evokes a narrative of voyage, memory, and belonging. Its design language draws from maritime elements: seashell inlays underfoot, wave-inspired stone flooring, and an amphitheater sculpted to resemble a wooden vessel. The façade, finished with cladded bricks and trailing foliage, suggests the quiet poetry of an old ship anchored in time.

Every space in the home is designed to unfold like a story. The plan includes sprawling courtyards, spillover lawns, and an open-air amphitheater built for gatherings under the stars. East-facing openings allow warm morning light to flood the interiors, while cross-ventilation brings in the freshness of the coastal breeze.

The use of Indian marble, Udaipur pink, and Jaisalmer yellow infuses the interiors with earthy richness, complemented by high floor-to-ceiling proportions and carefully curated textures. Rainwater channels are seamlessly integrated into the amphitheater seating—bridging aesthetics with sustainability.
At the heart of the home lies its storytelling—the seamless layering of architecture, memory, and materiality. The name Billy O’ Tea, a nod to sea shanties and voyages past, captures the whimsy embedded throughout the space.

STO.M.P’s design philosophy centers around site responsiveness, artistic exploration, and the poetic power of built form. With Billy O’ Tea, the firm continues to redefine the possibilities of residential design in India’s coastal regions—inviting architecture to not just shelter life, but to narrate it.
