The Ochre Abode is more than a beautifully styled residence—it’s a soulful expression of culture, craftsmanship, and contemporary comfort. Designed by The Design Collaborative (TDC), a Bangalore-based multidisciplinary firm led by architect Ramitha Anand, this 2,500 sq. ft. lake-facing apartment is rooted in narrative design, cultural sensitivity, and spatial functionality.
Located in North Bangalore, the home was envisioned for a young couple returning to their hometown. Drawing from the earthy tones and traditions of their ancestral house in Rajasthan, the design pays homage to their roots while catering to the fluid demands of modern life.

The apartment flows seamlessly between spaces, unified by a warm palette of terracotta, sage green, and natural textures. Lime-plastered walls, cane detailing, and rustic woodwork bring depth and authenticity, while intelligent space planning accommodates working from home, hosting guests, and moments of daily quietude. The foyer features a hand-painted Mandana art-inspired mural of a peacock, setting the tone for the culturally rich interior story.
Highlights include a versatile study space with a fluted glass partition in place of a conventional guest room, and custom finishes throughout the house crafted by local artisans using sustainable materials like clay and lime plaster. These elements not only add warmth and tactile richness but reinforce the home’s commitment to sustainability and regional craft traditions.

The Design Collaborative is known for crafting homes that respond to their users and contexts with a deep sense of empathy. With a philosophy rooted in efficient spatial planning and purposeful design storytelling, the firm blends innovation with timeless appeal. Every project is treated as an evolving dialogue between people, materials, and environment—and The Ochre Abode is a graceful testament to that approach.
From the layered textures to the thoughtful detailing, this residence stands as a modern sanctuary imbued with cultural identity and designed with care.
